We redesigned the icons to make them unique without sacrificing their familiar feel. The smaller form factor and screen real estate also require that the icons, colours and UX in general remain intuitive without the need for verbose labels or descriptions.
We chose a vibrant colour palette because communication has many moods and we wanted to capture and express them all. We also made sure that small text and icons remained legible in the chosen colours.
